Smugglers try to sneak gold, get caught by DRI officials

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officers, at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, arrested a man for smuggling 1,850 grams of gold into Hyderabad. The smuggler was traveling on a Spicejet aircraft, from Maduri to Hyderabad. During customs check, the DRI officials discovered gold in form paste, worth 35 lakh rupees.

After interrogating the suspect, DRI officials traced the source of the gold to Colombo, Sri Lanka. The gold was turned into paste before being loaded onto a Spicejet flight, traveling from Colombo to Hyderabad, via Madurai. Another yet-to-be-identified smuggler hid the gold under a seat on the flight, to avoid custom check at Madurai, before getting off at Madurai, and then the main accused boarded the flight and recovered the enshrouded gold, to smuggle into Hyderabad.

The officials confiscated the gold from the smuggler and took him to custody.
