Air Asia CEO, Tony Fernandes was booked on the charges of corruption along with a few of senior officers. Mr. Fernandes was accused conspiring with UPA government to manipulate the overseas rights.
The case is built on internal e-mails which were exchanged among senior employees of Air Aisa and Tata group. CBI has also filed an FIR against Tata Trusts executive Venkataramanan Ramachandran for his involvement in the conspiracy.
“Met Mr Ajit Singh a short while ago. He said approvals should come soon and that our planning should be on the basis of the 5/20 rule getting scrapped,” reads the email by Venkat to top AirAsia executive Tharumalingam Kanagalingam, who is also mentioned in the CBI FIR.
Despite the charges and accusations Air Aisa refuses to respond on the issue.
This isn’t the first charge against Air Asia. In 2016, Cyrus Mistry was dismissded for his involvement in unaccounted transaction worth 22 cores into Indian joint ventures.
